From thebeanieman.com "Beanies are for me an important must have wardrobe "commodity". In saying that I have found that a really great beanie is hard to find so I began knitting my own. My beanies are inspired by those worn by fisherman especially those I saw made on the Island of lewis And Harris in Scotland.

In terms of the history of my knitting, I have been wearing family made beanies to football and work all my life. I was taught to knit by my Grandmother, Mother and have had help along the way from many people like Aunty Joy. In the last year or so I have found myself knitting beanies on circular needles or on the round (1) for family and friends and this has grown into this website.

Knitting is an artform or a craft and according to Wikipedia, "Most histories of knitting place its origin somewhere in the Middle East, from where it spread to Europe by Mediterranean trade routes, and then to the Americas with European colonization. The first references to true knitting in Europe date from the early 14th century". Wikipedia also states that "Men were also the first to knit for an occupation".

So personally speaking I am not interested in conservative concerns about gender work roles. It is after all the 21st Century, women also are happily (trying) to encroach upon the traditional male work roles" and so quid pro quo Clarise!

People do what they do and the main thing is you don´t hurt anyone in your process! Perhaps, the most important thing is: "All of the beanies made by thebeanieman.com are (hand) made in Australia with yarn that is either 100% Australian Wool. Now if it´s a beanie made with an acrylic "blend" then I try to buy Australian but sometimes you just never know!"
